How to Clean Frosted Glass in Six Easy Steps

abc news

Are you one of those people who decided to go all out fancy with your glass windows and doors at home? If so, then you most probably have chosen frosted glass, am I right?

That is pretty understandable. After all, there are lots of things to love about frosted glass. The most important benefit of all is it helps to preserve your privacy in the most stylish way possible.

But if there’s one downside to it, it is also the fact that this type of glass is a bit difficult to clean. But don’t you worry! We have provided the different steps on how to clean frosted glass below:

How to Clean Frosted Glass (and Remove Stubborn Stains!)

What makes frosted glass look unique and beautiful is its pitted surface. These pits are the reason why the image on the other side is made blurry and these are also the very reason frosted glass is a bit difficult to clean because dirt tends to accumulate in between them.

Well, without further ado, here are some of the steps that you need to take to keep your frosted glass sparkly clean:

What You Will Need

  • Rubber Gloves
  • Paper Towels or Newspaper
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Wet-and-dry Emery Paper
  • Cloth
  • Abrasive Sponge
  • Window Cleaner

Step #1: Wear protective gloves.

Wear protective gloves

Please keep in mind that most of the chemical cleaners that you will use in this process are a bit strong. To protect your hands from dryness, you should wear gloves. This will also protect your newly cleaned glass from any unsightly finger marks that you may leave behind.

Step #2: Apply glass cleaner.

Spray glass cleaner to the glass then wipe it down with the use of old newspaper or paper towels. Rub the glass in circular motions. The best thing about using paper towels and newspapers is that these do not leave any lint behind.

Step #3: Wipe it down with an abrasive sponge.

Wipe it down with an abrasive sponge

If dirt and dust has accumulated in the glass’ pitted surface, we recommend that you wipe it with an abrasive sponge before using newspaper. Same with the newspaper, wipe the glass using the abrasive sponge in circular motions to thoroughly get rid of dirt.

Pro Tip: If the frosted glass is mounted on a wooden frame or you have to deal with a vinyl siding, you should exercise extra caution when using the abrasive sponge. Make sure that it would not come in contact with the wooden frame or the vinyl as it may scratch the paint off the frame.

Step #4: Remove stubborn stains.

Dust and dirt are easy to deal with but what about unwanted stains? This is most common with shower glass. If your frosted glass features stubborn stains, you may need to use stain remover to get rid of it. Oh, you may also want to clean your drain while you are at it!

Here are some of the stain removers that you may want to use:

Vinegar and baking soda

Mix an equal ratio of vinegar and water. Put it in a spray bottle and apply it to the stained sections of the glass. Wipe it down with a clean cloth. If the stain still remains, mix half-cup of baking soda with the vinegar solution. Apply the resulting paste to the window and rinse it off afterwards.

Step #5: Soak the emery paper and use it.

Does your frosted glass have a few metal marks? If that is the case, you need to remove it right away as it may damage your glass eventually. To do this, soak the emery paper first then rub it into the metal marks in circular movements. Continue doing this until the metal marks are gone.

Soak the emery paper and use it

Pro Tip: Make sure to use an emery paper with the same texture as that of your glass. If you use an emery paper that is too smooth, it may destroy the texture of the glass. To ensure this, feel the paper and the glass with your bare hands to determine if their textures are the same.

Step #6: Finish it off with a window cleaner.

Now that you are able to remove all the dirt and unwanted streaks in your frosted glass, let us add the cherry on top by cleaning your window using a standard window cleaner. After that, wipe it off using a lint-free cloth to keep the window looking polished and pristine.

In Summary

Frosted glass is not just aesthetically pleasing—it is functional as well. But just like most glasses, it is prone to dust, dirt, and stains and that is why we need to ensure that we will take good care of it by cleaning it on a regular basis.

The steps on how to clean frosted glass provided are easy and will not take too much of your time so please, do your frosted glass a favor and give it a good scrubbing every now and then.
