4 Home Repairs You Can Easily Do Yourself

abc news

While owning your own home can come with a considerable amount of benefits, there’s also a lot of responsibility. For people who aren’t very DIY, home repairs can feel daunting. This is a big reason why many seniors end up turning to assisted living, as the maintenance and upkeep of owning a home is a lot at one moment.

Paying experts to take care of your home repairs can quickly start to add up. And while in many cases certain repairs certainly call for a qualified professional, there are other circumstances that are totally possible to handle on your own. Here are some common and easy fixes that you can easily do yourself.

Fixing a Faucet

A leaky faucet may seem like nothing more than an innocent inconvenience. However, each drip can add up considerably over the course of the year. When you get your water bill, you may be surprised to find that that seemingly innocent drip ended up adding up to quite a bit of money!

So, do yourself a favor and fix the faucet sooner than later. Usually, the problem is fairly easy to fix, and usually is as simple as replacing a worn-out washer. Otherwise, the problem may be as simple as replacing an o-ring. The good news is that both of these items are very inexpensive to purchase, and extremely simple to replace.

Patching Up Holes

Accidents happen around the house, particularly if you have walls that are made out of drywall. And while initially, you may panic that a hole in the wall is the end of the world, the good news is that it’s quite simple to fix.

All you need is a little bit of drywall patch, some sandpaper, and a putty knife. Watch a few YouTube videos if that makes you feel more comfortable, and your wall will be as good as new.

Unclogging Drains

There’s nothing worse than that dreaded feeling that your sink is clogged and whatever’s in the sink is not going anywhere any time soon. The good news is that you can easily fix it yourself with a variety of methods. If you choose to go the chemical route, you can always buy a bottle of Drano and clear the drain out overnight.

Otherwise, a simple mix of baking soda and vinegar is a natural yet extremely effective alternative. Otherwise, you can always use a good old-fashioned plunger which will usually clear out most minor blockages whether it’s the toilet tub or a sink.

Painting

The good news is that you don’t have to be Leonardo Da Vinci to paint a wall!  That’s right, with the right tools and a little bit of tape, you can not only do a clean job but even get a little creative with doing something like an accent wall.
