Loft Insulation Grants 2023

abc news

Insulating your home’s roof space is the easiest and most cost-effective approach to saving energy and lowering your heating expenses.

Insulation should be installed to a depth of at least 270mm in the loft area, both between the joists and above, because the joists themselves constitute a “heat bridge” and transport heat to the air above.

With the use of insulated floor panels and current insulating techniques and materials, it is still feasible to use the room for storage or as a living space.

The Energy Saving Trust believes that a typical detached house in the UK may save £250 per year. And, thanks to the ECO4 scheme, there is probably a loft insulation grant that you will be eligible for!

What is Loft Insulation?

Insulating your home’s roof space is the simplest and most cost-effective way to save energy and reduce heating costs.

Because the joists themselves form a “heat bridge” and carry heat to the air above, insulation should be put to a depth of at least 270mm in the loft area, both between the joists and above. It is still possible to use the area for storage or as a living space with the use of insulated floor panels and contemporary insulating techniques and materials.

Who is Eligible for a Loft Insulation Grant?

Insulation grants are available to qualified families under the government-backed ECO4 initiative, which is funded by the UK’s major energy companies.

Income-based benefits, such as Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support, are examples of benefits that will qualify you for loft insulation grants. There are, however, various other ways you may be eligible for a grant without needing to be in receipt of benefits.

To be eligible for loft insulation under the ECO scheme, you must either own your property or rent it privately and have permission from your landlord to perform the necessary improvements. Access to your loft will be required by energy suppliers in order for the work to be conducted. They must be able to insulate at least two-thirds of your loft space, which means that families with more than 100mm of loft insulation will be excluded from the initiative.

If you satisfy the requirements, you should be able to get a free grant. Even if you are not eligible for a full grant, it is still worthwhile to inquire since you may be eligible for a rebate to offset the cost of loft insulation.

Do You Have to Pay the Grant Back Later?

No! You will not need to pay anything back, as this is a grant for loft insulation rather than a loan. As long as you meet the scheme’s eligibility requirements, an installer will do the job, and the grant will be used to cover the cost of the installation. The ECO plan requires the major energy providers, including British Gas, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power, SSE, EDF, and others, to offer incentives to qualified private homes.

Some eligibility modifications have occurred, which means that some persons who were previously ineligible because they did not get benefits may now be eligible for a home insulation grant, particularly if they are from a low-income household. Grants are also available for properties with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G.
