Whether you have an air-conditioned home or a room, you should always keep the AC in a good position. The more you take care of your air conditioner the less you need to repair it.
If you want your air conditioner to efficiently provide you the best results, then regularly maintain the filters, fins, and coils.
Using an air conditioner has some tricks and tips, if you follow them then you don’t need to worry about the machine.
When your air conditioner shows some issues, you should consult an expert instead of repairing yourself. Only professionals can do it properly, and if you try to do it yourself then it may worsen the problem.
However, the following we’ve shared how you can repair your air conditioner so that it works efficiently.
Air Conditioning Repair Tricks
Things You’ll Need
- Cordless driver
- Adjustable wrench
- Nut driver
- Insulated screwdriver
- Compressed air
- Needle-nose pliers
- Voltage tester
- Condenser fan motor
- Socket/ratchet set
Before repairing the air conditioner make sure you turn off the power. Then by using the voltage tester, check if the power is off.
First, you need to check three things if your ac provides little to no cold air. Make sure the AC is located in a wide-open area. The filter should be clean always.
Clean the condenser coils as well, and after cleaning them, turn on the AC and check if it provides the air properly, still, if you do not get cold air then you need to install a new filter and coil.
Check the fuses of the ac before you proceed to the repairs. Check the fuse with the multimeter, if you saw a zero or minus sign then it indicates a blown fuse.
When the fuse blows you should replace it with a new one. You can call an expert if you cannot do it alone.
Also, examine the access panel plus follow the electrical conduit from the house. First, turn off the power to work on it.
If the access panel contains any broken or damaged wire then the air conditioner needs to be repaired. Discharge the wires to repair and clean the nest.
We recommend you take help from the experts if you are new.
Every air conditioner service unit has one capacitor to provide extra power. Over time the capacitor may not work properly and it needs to be replaced. If you are an expert then purchase the best one and install it.
Or as usual, call a pro to do the job for you. But replacing the capacitor is an easy task.
You can try changing the AC contactor, it switches the power from the thermostat to the compressor, and condenser fan.
And the failure of the ac contactor can be worn out with time. Even if it works properly, it needs to be replaced every five years and so on.
N.B. - Before removing the wires, unscrew the ac contactor and then move it to the new unit.
Once you reinstall the access panel, and repair other functions, set the thermostat to the lower temperature. Wait for the AC until it starts - now the condenser fan should spin, as well as, the AC compressor should be run.
And if the fan does not run properly, it may be because of the fan motor. Shut off the power then remove the screw to reinstall the fan. If still, the ac is not working, give a call to the expert.
These were six simple steps that you can follow to repair the air conditioner. It is suggested to maintain the AC properly, and ask the air condition expert to repair the machine for you.
However, regular maintenance can help to keep your AC in good condition. You can follow the rules, and below I’ve shared it.
Regular cleaning of the filters will ensure the efficiency of the air conditioner. When the filters get clogged due to dirt, it blocks the normal airflow then the filters carry the dirt into the coil that absorbs heating capacity.
That is why make sure you clean the air filters regularly, and when it gets clogged, replace it with a new one.
Clean the Coils
Over time the air conditioner coils also collect dirt just like the conditioner filters. Generally, dirt reduces the airflow plus the ability to absorb the heat.
To keep the coils in good condition, check it each year and if needed then clean it.
nd remember, when the outdoor environment is dirty, the condenser coil would be dirty as well. Try to keep the outside area clean if possible.
You can use the coil fins so that the condenser and evaporator do not bend or block the airflow. Purchase a coil fin while purchasing an air conditioner.
Inspect the window seals each year to ensure the ac will be in good condition. The window seal can be damaged due to moisture. That's why it's also very important to allow the cool air from the house.
The condensate drain can be clogged occasionally due to the humidity or excess moisture. So keep the drain clean or hire a professional to do the job.
Use a Programmable Thermostat
People who are using an AC should use a programmable thermostat. This thing offers you to set the temperature for different times during the day. Additionally, this will reduce the temperature when you need it.
Install a Duct Booster the Air Conditioner
Use a duct booster in your AC to increase the airflow in your room. This will increase the cool air you need, also, this keeps the different parts in a good condition. Moreover, this reduces the dust and other dirt from the AC.
So there you are, when you have an Air Conditioner you should try to at least learn how to repair it. And if you can’t do it yourself then hire a professional. However, follow the simple maintenance tricks and hopefully, your Air Conditioner will be in good condition.
