Are you concerned about the hygiene of your refrigerator?

Proper maintenance is mandatory for almost all electrical appliances to increase the lifespan. Keeping refrigerator clean serves you by making it work smoothly. It also helps to keep your food fresh and healthy. And, to assist you in keeping it clean I have prepared a guide discussing how to clean a refrigerator

1. Things you need:

    1. All-purpose cleaner
    2. Some microfiber cloths
  • Baking soda
  1. Sponge
  2. Cleaning toothbrush
  3. Bin
  • Coil brush
  • Rag

2. Take everything out if the fridge:

Every item stored in the fridge needed to be removed from the fridge prior to cleaning. Check for any expired, aged or moldy food mark in there and discard them. Put all the items on a container in a way so you can easily rearrange them again in the refrigerator after cleaning.

3. Unplug your refrigerator:

Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. You can also just turn the cooling mechanism off if you have the option.

4. Remove the shelves, drawers and buckets:

You can clean the refrigerator while the shelves, drawers and basketsare still set on their places. But we strongly recommend you to take out all the removable items to clean thoroughly. Moreover, you will be able to reach the grooves and ridges to clean them up. Be careful while removing the shelves as in most cases they are made of glass.

5. Spray cleaner inside the refrigerator:

Pre-treat the inside part of the fridge with a general all-purpose cleaner. Spray the cleaner in all corners and spots. Also, spray on the rubber gasket along the border of the door to clean it up.

6. Pretreat the shelves, drawers and baskets:

Sprinkle some baking soda on the shelves, drawers, baskets and other parts removed from the refrigerator. Also, spray some all-purpose cleaner on them. Let the baking soda and spray sit there for a while. The combination of them will help to remove stains and any type of bad smell.

7. Clean inside of the refrigerator:

Take a cleaning tooth brush and gently brush inside the fridge where you think extra cleaning is needed. For stains that seem tough for removal, spray and sprinkle some baking soda. Let it sit there for a couple of minutes. Then wipe with a microfiber cloth, the stains will go away. Wipe the whole area inside the fridge covering all ridges and grooves.

Now, use the brush to reach the little grooves in shelves and drawer areas. Finally, clean up the gaskets. Use cleaning toothbrush to gently scrub the dirt then wipe it away with a microfiber cloth. Keep the fridge door open and let it dry completely.

8. Clean the removed parts:

Rinse the shelves, drawers, baskets and other parts using a wet sponge. Wash them well to clean. Combination of baking soda and all-purpose cleaning spray makes it easy to clean quickly. The drawers used to keep vegetables sometimes get some sticky and stubborn stains. Baking soda along with some hydrogen per-oxide can be used to clean them up.

Wipe all these items with a microfiber cloth and let them dry before setting them back on the fridge. Finally, place the food items again in your refrigerator in an arranged manner so you can find them later easily.

9. Clean up the exterior:

Clean up the exterior of the refrigerator using an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. If condenser coil and fan blade is set on the backside avoid using cleaner instead wipe them using a dry cloth.

10. Clean the condenser coil and fan blade:

They release the heat produced by the refrigerator back to the air. So, the dust and debris hampers the heat conduction and makes it harder for the refrigerator to be cool easily. Clean the condenser coil with coil brush after every 6 months. Use a damp rag and coil brush to clean the condenser fan blade carefully.
