The beautiful looking Siamese fighting fish, also known as a betta fish is a freshwater fish. You can find at least one or two of them in most aquariums. They are quite beautiful and stunning to look at.

Their food expense can be pricey. That's why a lot of owners tend to look for cheaper alternatives.

Homemade food is one of the best betta foods that you can make.

Powdered Spirulina Recipe:

On a small cup, pour around 3 ounces of tank water. By tank water, I mean the water from the aquarium tank. Now add one tea-spoon full of powdered spirulina into the water.

Stir the cup thoroughly. You need to make sure the power has dissolved to water completely. Now you need to add 3/4 tablespoon of fry fish bites into the mixture. After that 1/2 teaspoon of finely ground flakes and 1/2 teaspoon of ground bloodworm and mix the solution again.

Keep the mixture around for a couple of minutes, let it settle down. You got a delicious mix of food for your betta fishes. They will love it, it's also healthy for them.

Powdered Egg Recipe:

This is another great recipe for betta fishes. This time we are not going to use the tank water. You need to pour 4 ounces of distilled water in a cup. Make sure to take a big cup, it will be easy to mix things in a big cup.

Now add a tablespoon of chickpea flour or any ground legume. Make sure the Legume is finely ground. Fish can't eat legumes with residue.

Now you need to mix two tablespoons of powdered yeast and three tablespoons of powdered egg.

Now time to showcase your strength. Mix the contents vigorously, till they become even. If you have an egg mixer, use that instead of your hand.

As a finishing touch, add in three drops of fish liver oil and a small number of ground food flakes. This will increase the flavor of the mix. But they are not necessary.

Infusoria:

Infusoria is the easiest way of making liquid food for your bettas. But it won't provide instant food like the other two recipes above.

Fill a jar with water, it can be tap water or mineral water doesn't matter. Tear off the head of a lettuce leaf. Submerge the head of the lettuce in the water and leave the glass jar open in the sunlight.

You need to leave the jar there for a few days. When you see the water turning into a green hue, you can take it back inside. It's the result of algae building up in the water. This algae-rich water is now ready to be the snacks of your bettas.

Brine Shrimp:

This is probably the toughest recipes out there. This requires more care than any other recipe. But they are good as a renewable food source. You can breed them to increase the stock.

To make the dish, you need to fill a bowl of water with treated salt. You should also use an airstone to creat circulation within the water.

Make sure to change approx 1/4th of the water every week. This will be an ideal condition for brine shrimps to remain healthy.

As for the food of shrimps, crumble 4 grains of yeast and sprinkle it on the water every day.

Betta fish eats brine shrimp. You breed brine shrimps, you got an unlimited supply of food for your bettas.

But you need to take care of both of them to complete the food chain. That's why I said this needs more taking care of than any other.
