So, I don't know about you and your back situation, but I have three titanium screws in my lower back. Although this surgery took place many years ago, I still must proceed with caution when it comes to strenuous tasks. This is the reason why I am all for carpet removal that won't cause my back any more damage.

Recently, I made the decision to do a little research on the various ways you can go about removing carpet. I am embarking on a project to replace my flooring. This is because I realize that updating my floors is definitely going to increase my home's value.

It's important to realize that no matter how fed up we may be with our old carpet, we shouldn't let that influence us to take on the entire job ourselves! We must consider everything carpet removal requires.

I'm sure that some people may think that removing carpet seems like a simple project. However, it really isn't at all. The fact is, this is not a DIY job. That is constantly proven by the challenges that many homeowners face when they decide to take on this task themselves.

That's why in this post,  I want to provide you with the reasons why you might want to let professionals remove the old carpet from your home. I will also go over your options for carpet removal in your home. If you're searching for a way to keep you back intact during a project to replace your flooring, then keep scrolling.

Why Should You Consider Hiring a Professional for Carpet Removal?

When you look at the big picture, we should be completely realistic about our skill level and knowledge about carpet removal. If you wish to get rid of your old wall-to-wall carpeting, you may be thinking that you could save a lot of money if you attempt to DIY. It's important to realize that there are many factors to consider when deciding whether you should DIY or hire a professional for the job.

So, I want you to understand that if you prefer to DIY, you must be willing to put in the time and effort and commit to completing the task. Plus, if you have no prior experience in carpet removal, then this certainly may not be the best way.

On the other hand, when you hire a professional, it's going to save you time and hassle. Plus, they are going to be knowledgeable in the filled. These highly skilled individuals will effectively remove the old carpet and clean up any debris.

This is why I believe you should truly consider hiring a pro for this project. This will ensure that you receive high-quality work that you are satisfied with.

Pros Handle It Better

It's important to see that carpet removal can be a bit of a challenge. This is especially true if you decide to take a leap of faith and begin this as a DIY. So, this is why I want to explain why the pros handle this task better than we can on our own.

Removing Carpet Is Not a Simple Process.

Okay, so many people don't know this but, when you remove carpet, you can't just rip it to shreds and toss it out. This is because carpeting is very big, heavy, and bulky. That means that the act of pulling it up is a lot harder than it appears.  This is due to the fact that carpeting attaches to the floor along the edges of your walls.

The carpet is held down by tack strips. The process of prying the carpet from these tacks is best for someone with a strong back. However, this is only the beginning of the process. After you pry the tack strips from the floor, then, you can remove the old carpet pad. It's important to realize that the carpet pad installation consists of using staples or glue. If the glue is the culprit, then you will spend a good amount of time scraping to remove all of the old glue.

And when you finish rolling up the old carpeting and moving it out of the room, you will be able to thoroughly access any damages to the subfloor that were kept hidden by the original carpet. More often than not, concealed damage to the subfloor must be addressed before you will be able to put new carpeting in.

Options for Carpet Removal

So, no matter what your reasons may be for removing your carpet, we all want to find out what the easiest approach to the removal will be. From my research, I came across the only two options that you have for carpet removal.

The first option is to take this project as a DIY. The internet is full of knowledge on various methods you can use in order to remove the carpet on your own. It's important to realize that every DIY method is different. It will depend on certain factors. Things to consider will be if the carpet is glued or tacked down, and in some cases, both. You can even find some interesting information on carpet removal from a concrete slab. However, I don't feel that this method would be of benefit to me nor my back.

The second option is to choose a qualified professional to tackle this task. When you truly look at the steps and the work that goes into the carpet removal, it appears to me that there is only one solution. This is why I made the decision to locate a fully licensed and insured carpet removal service.

In my opinion, this is the best way to keep from breaking your back.
